Vatican Takes On Swiss For Exploiting Needy Women

The Vatican may have Swiss guards but that doesn’t mean it isn’t gloves off when it comes to criticizing Swiss multi-national food conglomerates.

L’Osservatore Romano, the Vatican newspaper, charges that Nestlé, in a “notoriously and in a cunning and improper manner” supplied women in Africa with free dry milk packages, designed to last until new mothers lost their own ability to produce milk and became dependent on the dried product. “A need was therefore created in the name of charity and with profit in mind,” the newspaper said.

Melinda Gates, who married well and now has a lot of money to spend and thus gets cited as an expert in…something, is also taken to task for her statements on contraception – her efforts will enrich pharmaceutical companies more than it helps needy women, they charge.
